EARTH WORDS SPEAKER
Wednesday, April 8, 2026, 7 pm, PRAX, Detrick Hall, Free- Reserve Tickets
Spring Creek Project Presents: Earth Words: The Pacific Northwest’s Premier Environmental Writing Showcase
In these times of cultural upheaval when the natural world is facing unprecedented pressures and losses, we need joyful celebrations to nurture community, sustain activism, and deepen our understanding of kinship and interconnectedness with all living beings. Earth Words will feature celebrated writers sharing stories that help us imagine new futures, deepen our love for the world, and resoundingly speak up for justice.
Since its founding 23 years ago, the Spring Creek Project has held fast to the belief that how we write about this precious and imperiled world has the power to change it. Join us as these five celebrated authors fill the concert hall with good words for this world:
- Marina Richie, author of Halcyon Journey: In Search of the Belted Kingfisher, winner of the John Burroughs Medal for Distinguished Nature Writing
- Rena Priest, former Washington State Poet Laureate, winner of a Washing State Book Award, and author of, most recently, Positively Uncivilized
- Ferris Jabr, contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine and author of Becoming Earth: A Journey Through the Hidden Wonders that Bring Our Planet to Life, which was named a Best Book of the Year by Smithsonian, Chicago Public Library, Booklist, Scientific American, and Nature
- Garrett Hongo, author, poet, and Distinguished Professor at the University of Oregon who was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for The River of Heaven and whose most recent collection is Ocean of Clouds
- Lauren Markham, journalist, fiction writer and essayist who has won the Ridenhour Book Prize and the Northern California Book Award and whose most recent book is Immemorial
