Global Birdfair
“The world’s largest annual celebration of birds, generating huge support for bird conservation, will take place at Rutland Water, UK, from the 10th – 12th July 2026.”
This is a thrill! I’m presenting a preview of Feathered Forest at the 2026 Global BirdFair . I’ll appear on the Turnstone author stage at 11:30 am on Friday, July 10th. After my talk, I’ll head to sign books at the Wild Sounds and Books stand in Nightingale Marquee. While it’s too soon to sign Feathered Forest books, I am delighted to sign copies of Halcyon Journey: In Search of the Belted Kingfisher.
The theme of Global Birdfair 2026 is “Preventing Island Extinctions” and the flagship bird is the critically endangered Dwarf Ibis. More than a gathering of 13,000 bird lovers, the event is raising awareness and funds for BirdLife’s conservation work to protect endemic birds in São Tomé and prevent extinctions in the island nation.
I’ll be “glamping” there with my husband Wes. We will be joined by my son Ian and partner Felicity, and her parents. I’m delighted that Matthew Derr, deputy publisher of Chelsea Green Publishing is coming as well.
Are you going, too? Know someone who is? Please let me know. I’m looking forward to meeting birding guide Ryan Chenery of Birding the Islands (connected via my friend Jim Stratton). I’m grateful to author Peter Cavanaugh, who will be presenting “How Birds Fly” at 4:30 pm on the Turnstone stage. I met Peter last fall at the Sisters Book Festival here in Oregon and he encouraged me to apply to speak at the Global BirdFair.
It’s shaping up to be quite the adventure, and my first time ever going beyond London in the UK. And you know I’ll be looking for Common Kingfishers.
Here is my listing. (To see the full program, click here)
